Cleaning up the site, 2012 edition

Oh hi. So, I’ve been cleaning up the site quite a bit lately. Deleted a bunch of unused tags, streamlined the categories, fixed dead links by either removing or updating them, updated the blogroll, updated the plugins, reconfigured the sitemap stuff… So you know, general maintenance really.

I also rewrote a large part of the main music page, and added a few pictures in there to spice it up a little. I think it makes more sense now. Also, remember when I used wayback machine to hunt down some release dates for some of my old songs and ended up editing the WordPress posting dates to set up blog posts in the past? Yeah, that was a dumb idea if there ever was one, so I deleted those 3 posts. And I also rewrote the About page.
And I changed the theme from the old barely working Green Goblin to WordPress’ own Twenty Eleven. Yes yes, I know, I’m a year late. It will be interesting to see what kind of theme the Twenty Twelve will be, maybe I’ll use that if it’s any good.

I was also considering getting a new domain name. I don’t really know why for sure, I’m sure I can come up with a good excuse. Beerlake is kind of tiring. Looking back, that was kind of dumb name to pick for a domain, right? Don’t really know what would be a good new domain though, and I don’t even want to think of all the dead links that would result in killing the image dump that resides in here. So I guess I’m stuck with it, for now at least.

Now, you may ask yourself, why is he doing all this, he never even updates this stupid site. That’s a good question. Maybe I will update more often. Guess you just have to tune in to find out. Mysterious!

Updated some pages…

I slightly edited the About page. Very slightly. You may not even see the addition!

Secondly, major edit to the music page. It took me a while, but all the songs are actually now listed with proper links and shit, instead of just a link to the folder. I made small sections to keep them in somekind of order, I hope you like it. I did it just for you! Yes, you, you know who you are! I also rewrote a good part of the text on that page.

Nothing else to report.

Old and new…

HA! LIES! Nothing new here, just the same old shit in a new bag.

Well, what I did was I took the songs I mentioned an hour ago, fixed the tags a bit (I never liked how www.vgmix.com was the album tag) and uploaded them. While I was at it, I took all my stuff, and updated the url fields. Hooray! I only did this because the old files had some geocities shit in there that needed removing.

Anyway, some of the filenames and song titles have changed back to their original titles, for example Call at a Port is now Sea Calls, the title I used for it in vgmix1. Nothing much more to it than that.

Oh, and a totally unrelated note, Technorati has gotten their shit together and automatic updating works once again in there it seems. Maybe I’ll get some more authority now? Fat chance.

Got a hold of some old songs…

So, a few days ago a guy at the vgmix forums provided the forum goers with his vgmix1 collection, which had 12 my songs from the vgmix 1 times. I’m not 100% sure of course, but chances are that these are most, if not all of the stuff that I actually released during vgmix. So, given that, I decided to download them and soon I will also replace the equivalent songs in my archive here with the original, “first recordings”. I plan to leave comment tag unmodified for those, so there’s some stupid stuff in there for anyone who cares. God did I ever learn to shut up.

The difference between the originals and the newer ones are minimal, bitrate probably, newer ones might have less reverb, or changed instruments, anything like that. It’s been too damn long for me to actually remember, and I’m too lazy to check. Yeah, I’m just that lazy. Keep them both if you wish, but I’m personally only going to keep the originals. Oh yeah, the best part is the super awesome track names that I came up with. Wow, is all I can say.

The songs in question are…
Breath of Fire II – Battle
Chrono Trigger – Chiplab 8
Double Dragon III – Alea Iacta Est
Final Fantasy II – Metalbat
Final Fantasy VI – The Metalisive Battle
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals – Around the World
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals – Double Bass Boss Battle
Megaman 3 – Whirl!
Secret of Evermore – Premiere
Terranigma – Sea Calls
Top Gear – Out of Gas
Wizards & Warriors – Life Through Visor

I have nothing to post

So I’ll just post about how I have the flu. And it’s really draining all my strenght.

In other news, I also have a few songs that I’m actually working on. It’s been a while too really. The last two I did doesn’t really count anyway. The latest was really just a short and easy cover, nothing to it, and the one before that was an old thing that had been in almost ready state for the better part of last year. But now I’m actually doing something new, which is incredible.

I also plan to buy a harmonica and learn how to play it. It’s going to be quite awesome. Hopefully anyway. Chances are that it will be a long time before I’m confident enough to actually record anything with it (how do you record harmonica anyway?) but who knows.

And lastly, in case someone didn’t notice, I added a contact link in the page menu. Shockingly, it has a contact form inside!

New song woo! Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Cornered chip cover

I made this for a chiptune competition thing that Geo at the Minibosses forums had going, but I guess the whole thing went under without much support. I think only couple of us ended up finishing our songs. Anyway, it’s a NES cover of the Cornered song from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Nothing much more to it than that I guess. Enjoy.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Cornered

New song: Arcana / Card Master – Angry Safari Shirt

New song?! Well, that’s not entirely true. But I haven’t really release this anywhere properly, so to speak.

Arcana / Card Master – Angry Safari Shirt

Originally made for the short-lived Dwelling of Chips compo thing, it’s a short chiptune cover of one of the battle themes from SNES game called Arcana (Card Master in Japan). I had started this a million years ago, and when the deadline was closing in I decided to quickly finish and submit it (thus the crappy ending). There is nothing amazing here like you would expect from Rushjet1 or virt for example, just a simple thing really. If I were to submit this to vgmix3 whenever it launches, I’d imagine it would fall down to underworld pretty fast and possibly even removed from the site.

Also, if you for some strange reason have the DoC entry or downloaded this before from my site, this release is a bit different. I tweaked it a bit shortly after the DoC deadline had passed, nothing major, but this version is the one I’m keeping and so should you.

All my music is back

But I didn’t make anything special for them yet. I just opened the music folder for direct access really, nothing else. Some other day perhaps. So, if you really care about that shit, it’s all in there. Well, most of it should be there anyway. If you have anything mine that I don’t have in the folder, please give it to me. Thanks!

Them songs part 2

So, I was thinking about the songs again today, and what kind of system I’d put up for them. Hat at Hat’s Loft has everything set up so that he has a single blog post for each file, which I may do as well, as it’s not a bad idea at all. Though I may have to hack a simple, more compact, template for the music category. We’ll see if I can be arsed to do that. Well, in any case, the tunes are as crappy as you remember them to be. So keeping that in mind, there are no hurries eh.
